People in Pittsburgh know how to work hard together.  The multi-ethnic, multi-racial and multi-cultural heritage of the original labor force in the steel and coke plants lives on in the contemporary urban environment. This cultural vibrancy makes for fertile ground; new generations of makers and creators are thriving in the region.

Pittsburgh Mercantile is named after the “Company Store” of one of the great steel mills, with a nod to the hard work and ingenuity of the immigrant men and women who worked there.

We celebrate the individuality of the new creative community in Pittsburgh and its surrounding area by bringing together the best of what’s being produced by artisans and craftspeople of the “Rustbelt.” Whether recent transplants or natives, our makers bring an unmistakable regional sensibility to their work. v
